Music Ministry

Music Ministries

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth!”
Psalm 100:1

At Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church, sacred music has a unique and special way of ministering to a congregation’s spiritual needs, whether it be through congregational hymn-singing, choral anthems, youth and children’s music, or spiritual offerings from musicians and instrumentalists. Our music ministry provides many different opportunities for groups and individuals to explore, learn, share and use their spiritual gifts of music and song for the glory of God. In order to meet a variety of needs and age groups, the following choirs and groups are available:

Chancel Choir

This adult 4-part choir (SATB) meets in fellowship and service to God every Wednesday night throughout the school year, 7:40 pm - 9:00 pm, to prepare and experience a wide variety of sacred musical offerings to share with the congregation every Sunday at the 10:30 am worship service. The Chancel Choir also assists during worship by leading congregational singing. Special music, cantatas, and larger works are prepared and scheduled throughout the year. This choir enjoys attending the SEJ annual Choir Music Weekend festival retreat held every fall at Lake Junaluska, NC.

Children’s Music/Handbells

Our three children’s choirs meet throughout the school year on Wednesday nights from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Programming for the children on Wednesday night consists of a continuation of the study from Sunday morning through music, missions, recreation, snacks, and crafts (BLAST - Being disciples, Loving God's children, Acknowleding our Lord, Sharing the Word, Telling Others). The goal of our Children’s Choirs ministry is to provide a safe, healthy environment where children can experience God’s love, learn and cherish the songs of our faith, discover the joy of expressing and sharing God’s spiritual gift of music, and explore what it means to be a child of God and a leader in worship. The Children’s Choirs prepare a wide variety of anthems and praise songs to share during worship. They participate in special music programs with their main event is the Christmas program, and also assist in planning and leading the entire worship service on Children’s Sunday every spring. Children's in grades 2-5 can also be a part of the handbell ministry on Wednesday nights from 6:10-6:30 p.m. The handbell choir performs at various times throughout the year.

The three Children’s Choirs are:
      The Cherubs (Aged 3-Kindergarten)
      Joyful Noise (1st-3rd grades)
      Shepherds(4th-5th grades)

Handbell Choir

This adult 5-octave Handbell and Handchime choir meets in fellowship and service to God every Wednesday throughout the school year from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm Sacred anthems with multiple techniques and varying levels of difficulty (2+ to 4-) are experienced and prepared for sharing in worship on a monthly basis. Musical offerings for soloists, duets, 4-in-hand quartets, ensembles and combined-choirs are also a part of the Handbell ministry throughout the entire year, including special programs and dramas. The Handbell Choir also enjoys participating in the Middle Tennessee Handbell Festival, held every fall in the Nashville area.
